Brett McGarry is a criminal defence lawyer and partner at Lyttle McGarry Del Greco LLP.
Brett has dedicated his practice to criminal and regulatory defence since 2008. He has defended people accused of all types of criminal charges, including homicide, attempted murder, sexual assault, large-scale drug trafficking, firearms charges, human trafficking, fraud, and other serious offences.
Brett has defended hundreds of driving while impaired by drug or alcohol cases. He has often had charges dismissed by advancing successful defences, including those involving the violation of his client’s Charter rights.
He has successfully defended many sexual assault charges, ranging from professionals charged during their employment, to historical offences, to charges under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. In other cases, he has presented evidence to the police which have cleared his clients of the allegations.
Brett has served as a director of the Criminal Lawyer’s Association and a trustee of the County of Carleton Law Association. He frequently speaks at conferences for the legal profession, expert witnesses, and police.
Brett attended Dalhousie University Law School. After graduating in 2007, he clerked for the judges of the Superior Court of Justice in Ottawa, working primarily on complex criminal trials.
He is a member of the Extremely Serious Matters panel for Legal Aid Ontario.
In his free time, Brett can often be found playing hockey or coaching minor hockey.
